The screenplay itself is disappointing. Predictable story, overly sentimental, impossible to understand the motivations for the characters' actions, multiple underdeveloped characters and subplots, no interesting plot twists... pretty boring movie overall. Thankfully could watch the film in Italian as I hear the English dubbing was horrible.
The acting is, on the whole, great - you wouldn't expect anything less from Sophia Loren (not sure how good her Puglian accent was though) but Ibrahima Gueye also deserves applause for his appearance as Momo. I feel like the actors did their best to lend life to the vapid, one-dimensional roles they were given but wasn't enough in the end.
The visuals deserve a mention too, Bari is a beautiful city and it was high time it served as a backdrop to a famous production.
