As someone who hasn't read the books or played the games but loves fantasy and storytelling, this show is terrible. I barely made it through episode one. Turned it off once, came back the next day to finish it and nearly turned it off a second time. I ended up on my phone flicking through Facebook long before the episode finished. I will not go back for more.
I loathe split timeline storytelling. All this jumping from one time to another is not an effective mode of storytelling. Pick a timeline, tell me a story but please don't keep flicking back and forth between multiple timelines! Flicking between characters that ultimately lead to each other is a proven storytelling mode.
Characters drop like flies, I don't understand why or even get a chance to like the characters and their cause before in true GoT spirit, are killed off (I hated GoT by the way, never finished it). Sounds like they're trying to cash in on that "success". GoT at least got me to season 4 before I threw in the towel.
There's a lot (and I mean a lot) of filler scenes that just do not need to be there, they do not add any value to the story other than filling a 60 minute timeslot. The episodes could easily be 30 minutes long, maybe 45.
The money clearly went into fight choreography instead of good writing. The fight scenes are alright - filled with blood and gore. Seems to be all the rage these days but I just hate it. I am here for the story, of which this show fails to engage me.
