Maybe I’m losing it in my dotage. Saw this film years back and didn’t remember seeing it, not a positive sign. This time around it was more or less a perfect, Fargo-esque kind of film. Dark, neatly plotted, brilliantly written, and acted. Whatta cast. Malkovich, Thornton, Dern, Platt, and Hemsworth. The rating of 38 that Rotten Tomatoes gave this film is quite silly, to me. This film is just below a mini masterpiece. See it.

Wish this movie could have been about the cool, talented bartender/petty hustler portrayed by Holland in the early stages of the film… rather than what it turned into: a 5th rate Indiana/Jones wannabe movie.

This is one man’s opinion. But for Rotten Tomatoes to hang a 64 on this mini masterpiece provides further proof that whatever Rotten Tomatoes is, it is aptly named. I’ll not go into any of the plot points so as not to spoil. Just saying that if you want to see a survival story that rivals ANY I’ve ever seen, check this film out.

Two great actors at the top of their game but it isn’t enough to spend two hours on this drone fest. Well, almost, as I did watch to conclusion. It was like being on a Greyhound bus for two hours with an amazing bus driver. Yeah, the driver was good, but who’d want to be on a Greyhound bus in the first place.

Could not take my eyes off Adria Arjona. So gorgeous and an absurdly talented actor. She and Powell are fabulous together. Funny, clever and cool flick. I would have given 5 stars except for too much quasi intellectual philosophizing about the meaning of life/ability to change, etc.

Remarkable. Truthful. Loving one’s sadness does indeed prevent one from loving another.

The music alone, relentless and punitive, is guaranteed to give you a two Tylenol headache. Sure, the stunts are great, but the story is way beyond weak, although I can’t tell you what it was as I kept falling asleep. There’s a reason this bombastic dud is sure to fail at the box office.

I could watch Benicio del Toro paint a wall. Every move, every gesture, not a wasted motion. He turns this slightly better than average crime drama into a mini masterpiece.

Kept waiting for Julianne to blow Natalie’s head off with her shotgun, so ultimately I was quite disappointed.

One of the greatest horror films of all time.
