The good: Starts off with an AWESOME Stan Lee tribute!! Sam Jackson and "Goose" the cat are fantastic together. Notable performances by Ben Mendelson and I really enjoyed Clark Gregg's participation. Lashana Lynch's performance as Maria Rambeau gave the movie some heart.
The bad: Brie Larson's acting was not what you'd expect from an Oscar-winner. Her performance was very bland; her reactions to everything was the same, there was no real character growth, and she easily overcame every obstacle of the movie, no real Hero's journey. The one line where she corrects Sam Jackson saying her race was "noble warrior HEROES" was very cringe. A few pointed feminist comments were very unnecessary.
Some of the CGI was very awful, particularly a few CGI scenes of Goose in awkward situations.
This movie isn't relevant to the MCU, you don't need to see it.
Final thoughts: I did my best to watch the movie separate from its horrible marketing, and I have to admit that the movie wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. The marketing plus Larson's performance are the biggest reasons I can't really can't recommend this movie.
