It was sadly mesmerizing. Joaquin Phoenix deserves the Oscar this year and maybe the movie does too. I believe anyone who cares about mental illness should see this movie. But there are plenty of triggering scenes that may deflect from it getting overall good reviews. I have already seen that many people are divided in their opinions about this movie. My opinion is that it doesn’t fit the comic-book movie genre. It is elevated above it. While this film is deeply disturbing, it shows a fractured society with bullying, and us vs. them at the forefront of our culture, very much like our not so make-believe society in American pop culture.
