One of the best films ever made. Deep, authentic, beautifully shot, fabulous acting all around. Not sensationalized or cliched. Not just the usual surface gloss. Characters are nuanced, conflicted, challenged (not simply good or evil). And the ultimate question emerges by the end: when it comes to war, who is sane or insane? What “methods” are inhumane when everyone is killing and everyone is doing anything possible just to survive, to stay alive?
And this movie still holds up today, more than 40 years later. Still fresh. Still chilling. Still thought-provoking!
