Where I enjoyed the two lead performances (for the most part), Strange Darling gets caught up in too much gimmickry. Everyone seems all up themselves because this was shot in 35mm. Whooopee Dooooody Doo! The film starts with a “this is a true crime and what you see is a reenactment” intro that is pretty pointless in the scheme of the film. The dialogue is clunky and the music grating. I suppose in what was a lousy year for film this would get high ratings. Much like the similarly over praised Skinnylegs, or whatever it’s called, Crazy Darlings will disappear from cine-memory quickly.
