Bloodborne is an amazing game, and definitely in my top three favourites. I highly recommend but I can understand it can be quite a controversial game for a lot of people. Those familiar with souls combat will definitely have an easier time at the start of the game. It’s a sharp learning curve for sure. The most important factor for determining whether you will enjoy the game or not is whether you dig the aesthetic, that’s what kept me coming back even after dying probably hundreds of times.
On that note, dying is an important part of Bloodborne. You don’t learn by succeeding and doing the exact same thing over and over again. You’ll also see quite a few people saying that the game just ‘clicked’ for them after about half an hour in or more, I do think it’s a bit misleading. You don’t suddenly become good and love the game, it’s more the realisation that you already are good and already are having fun. This also doesn’t happen instantly though and Bloodborne can be hard, frustrating and sometimes boring, but if you stick it out you’ll be left with an amazing game and experience. Bloodborne is like no other game and for me at least, being someone who hadn’t played the souls games before and was a complete noob, completely changed how I viewed difficulty and precision in video games.
I see a lot of people trying to explain parrying and either not explaining it right or being confusing, there are plenty of guides you can search up to find shortcuts but for me this one tip completely changed my gameplay tactics. To parry with your gun you don’t shoot at the start of the animation and you don’t exactly shoot in the middle of the animation either. Enemies can be slower or faster with different timing. Wait until the beast has charged up it’s attack (whether that be instantaneous or a second long) and just before it follows through that’s when you shoot. It’s very hard to get right but it’s certainly important to learn how to do. You might get hit back when trying because you did it a little too late but as long as the parry happens you’ll know you’re getting better. Also I spam R1 straight after the parry follows through and that seems to work but some people suggest to wait about half a second until the beast’s knee hits the ground. Practice on ogres first as they are slower and easier to parry so you see results.
