This is a film that hits you 'like a cymbal being thrown at the head'.
The portrayal of the complex dynamics between the cruel and brutal mentor (JK Simmons) and the wildly ambitious, arguably misguided student (Teller) is the sort of masterclass in writing, filming, and acting rarely seen in modern cinema.
It certainly doesn't make for comfortable watching, or a film to relax and veg-out to. It's a far more challenging, and ultimately rewarding experience than that.
