An astoundingly beautiful film, life affirming. It is historically as accurate as any movie I have ever seen in observance of 19th century, daily, peasant life in eastern europe. The intimacy between the human subjects is spell binding, for example when they are cutting the wheat. Each actor is trully captivating and believable and each character is bound to the original young girl as if by magic, perhaps a different face but holding the awe and reverance for life that the "witch" possesses. Ultimately a study of good and evil.
