I've always loved the IP Man films, unfortunately I found IP Man 4: The Finale pretty awkward and disappointing. What I always found so unique and refreshing about the first 3 films was the fact that I was watching an actual Chinese film. Not only did the characters look and feel more natural during those films, it also made sense for the characters to speak Chinese since the film's were obviously based in Hongkong. Which brings me to the reason why I didn't like this film. I found it odd and unnatural for the characters to speak English when the film revolves around Chinese culture. It felt like I was watching a horribly dubbed U.S. film. The whole charm of the franchise completely went out the window and I ultimately felt like I just watched another basic Hollywood action film. Overall the franchise felt completely ruined as a result of having IP Man speak English throughout this entire film. It was completely out of character and odd.
