Nicole Kidman is horrendous as Lucy in every aspect imaginable. Years of the characters’ lives are conflated into a weeklong period — along with flashbacks, flashfronts (if that’s a word) that made it chaotic and impossible to follow a plot line, probably because one didn’t exist. Javier Bardem (as Ricky/Desi), Nina Arianda (Ethel/Vivian Vance) and J.K. Simmons (Fred/William Frawley) are passable. The completely unnecessary grape-stomping scene was a disaster. Basically this movie was a waste that lasted more than two hours.
