I found the plot of the book interesting and original.. but found that there are pages and pages of discriptive paragraphs that contribute nothing to the story. Every minor character has to have their childhood or background described at length for no reason. Tengo has a friend fill in for him at work and you have to read about how his friend enjoyed fly fishing, etc. for no reason. Right when the book picks up, Ushikawa based chapters start where he is painstakingly figuring out all of the events you just read. I feel like this story could have been told in 500 pages or less.
