I am a real life survivor of sex trafficking. I read this book and it changed my life and I was even more excited that this was adapted into a movie.
I was very excited to see how this would go. Here is an honest review:
PROS
The casting was WONDERFUL. I had no idea who these actors were (except Eric Dane & Nina Dobrev) but it was so beautifully crafted.
CONS
It felt like the story was a little bit rushed. Unlike the book it all happened so fast. I know a 2 hour movie is a hard time to fit in so much but this was very rushed. I think a mini series would’ve been a better fit (like someone else said in another review)
NEUTRAL
It was not as faith-focused as the book was. I am sure for a more secular audience that works and they may be more drawn to it but God was a big part of the book and original story. Fans of the book may find that disappointing. I didn’t mind but some people might.
There was some nudity for a PG-13 movie and some of the abuse was hard to watch. I have seen a lot of complaints about the sex scenes but to that I would say that this is a story about God rescuing and healing a girl from human trafficking and forming a healthy relationship.
Either way it is worth the watch and was worth the wait!
