I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show! I GOT IT, from the first episode. Being a fan of Black-ish and its spinoffs, I was more than interested in checking out #BlackAF. I'm glad I did. Love the single-camera setup and the dry wit. What's unfortunate - and I'm hopeful that someone has already said this, but I damned sure wasn't about to read 600+ reviews to find out - is that he had viewers responding about the color(lessness) of the cast, and they got hung up on the language used, etc... NOT THE POINT, PEOPLE!
I'm not going to go through the synopsis, because - again - I hope someone has already covered it in a previous review.
The reason for my review, then is 2-fold: One, to support Kenya Barris and his new venture with Netflix. I understand the move from one network to another. Sometimes, in order to tell a story the way we want to tell it - unapologetically, and such, we have to make moves. Look at all the standup on Netflix. Think those could have made it to a major (ABC, NBC, CBS) network? Ehhh, NA! Ok, so, reason 1 - SUPPORT.
Reason 2 for this review -Just to take this chance to remind 'Black Folk' that we need to stop taking ourselves so damned serious! SHEESH! The first thing we want to do is tear someone's efforts DOWN, instead of trying to understand the point and the PURPOSE for a thing! It's not always about whether something is 'black' enough or accurate in its representation, according to your personal opinions. Funny, we open our mouths over everything, claiming one kind of injustice or another! It's like ENOUGH all-friggin-ready! We should be proud of this man and his accomplishments, and support his efforts. Today, there are way more important and pressing issues to be concerned with and to STAND for. Learn how to laugh more, pick your battles, and move on, damn...
