“The Kid” is an outstanding movie front to back.
The only thing that they really missed the mark on was the accuracy, or better yet for Hollywood’s intent, the location’s styling, of Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico.
The village center, or better yet the Plaza of Santa Fe, couldn’t have been further from what it actually was and is. Instead of completely wood structures, it was almost entirely Adobe. Very few territorial style buildings were even fitted with wood siding, instead, it’s almost all stucco with that style’s design characteristics for the time period Billy was alive. Santa Fe is also not in the middle of Egypt, but rather nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristos. I’m retrospect it’s a minute detail, but then again, if you’re telling a tale that has a sliver of history then those details is what takes the movie from good to great.
Other than that, this movie was one hell of a westerner.
