No real plot progression, no explanations of anything that happens. No hint as to where its going or what any of it could mean.
Nobody really uses guns for what reason we haven't a clue, as there are a few, and a dart can penetrate their energy shields.
But no, they all use knives and run around in groups like space samurai.
No clue why the boy keeps thinking about the girl.
And yeah, we get it, worms. Endless worms.
What you have is a film an hour longer than it needs to be to tell a simplistic story that is basically setup, ambush, chase, then, well that's basically it other than confirm what we know from the "part one" in the opening titles. Yep, there will be another film.
Star wars did plot development, built a story arc, and told a self contained story, in thirty minutes less.
Its also hugely obvious on themes.
Multiculturalism blah, climate change blah.
Even blatant American Middle East imperialism, with the ships they fly even looking and sounding like apaches and black hawks.
Just swap the spice for oil and you've got it.
Generic, contrived, obvious,and unengaging.
But hey, the music is loud.
