This is a powerful book. Using the central theme of the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre Ortiz addresses violence and racism in Colorado and the United States. He interweaves his time at a veterans rehab. hospital at fort Lyons with refections on the violence of nearby Sand Creek. It is best to read it out loud.
