Honestly, this movie standing next to Wolf Children is a bit low. Where it was nice to see through the eyes of a four year old’s and his imagination, my father and I couldn’t help but feel completely confused by this film. It was a good movie, don’t get me wrong, but I feel as if I was let down a bit. My father and I heard about the reward that this movie earned, we had high expectations for it, seeing how amazing Wolf Children turned out. When we finally managed to fix all the problems and watch the movie, we were a bit bummed.
Why do I feel this way? I slightly feel as if the movie is sometimes repetitive. not to mention that he makes a sound almost every movement he takes, which became extremely aggravating for me and my father. The movie also reminded me of boss baby, which was released in 2017. However, I have no idea if the film was still underway it’s process as Boss Baby came out. Wolf Children is a film that I believe deserves an award as well, and I’m a bit upset on how it didn’t get one. Wolf Children is a book about a mother who falls in love with a man who has the ability to turn into a wolf. They have children and have to find ways to live and choose their paths as human or wolves, without prying eyes. Whereas many movies that include younger siblings, they usually include imagination, and jealousy. Wolf Children is a one of a kind movie that stands taller than Mirai in my opinion.
Wolf Children also gave out a more touching concept where you could feel for Hana. In my opinion, Mirai made me feel for Kun for the first ten minutes until I realized how naughty his attitude was. Wolf Children shows the hardships of growing up in a much different way, showing how paths change and how much a parent would give up for their children. While Mirai gives a good moral, Wolf Children was a much better movie from my view. I expected more from this movie. As the animation was good along with the music and moral, I truly believe that Wolf Children deserves more attention.
Overall, I believe Wolf Children is a better movie for people like me that like choosing paths, running wild, and being whoever you want to be. Even if there are many hardships. Mirai, yet being not the best movie for me, was a nice film to watch to spend time with my dad as we both laughed at Kun’s never ending grunts. Wolf Children needs more recognition and I highly recommend it if you love animals, freedom, family, feeling nostalgia(for bring a parent of a child or a child yourself), and many more feelings that will make you love the film. For those who love feeling young, feeling(sometimes) relable, and dreaming big, Mirai may be a good fit for you.
Sorry for the long review, got carried away :), anyways, to whoever is with you, reading this, and much more, I hope you have an amazing day, night, afternoon, morning, etc, enjoy the movie if you’re watching it, and give Wolf Children a chance.
