For being a huge fan of gillian Flynn's writing I went into the film hopeful but was only dissappointed. Dark Places was an addictive read, haunting, complex and incredibly dark. The film adaptation is mediocre at best. Charlize Theron's performance wasn't convincing whatsoever despite being a very talented actress. She underscored and wasn't vulnerable enough. I can't help but feel they should've cast Jessica Chastain instead as Libby. She has naturally red hair and could've dyed it blonde while also leaving the roots untouched to give the impression she doesn't care too much when it comes to her appearance. That and she tends to be a very driven actress immersing herself in her role completely. All in all, this movie had horrible casting and didn't give the impression that they invested themselves in this story which at all.
