I was scrolling through Netflix and chose to watch this show out of curiosity; I don't know much about American BBQ and am not great at cooking in general. What had me hooked were the people in the show. Great range of characters! I appreciate how vulnerable everyone was with each other. Instead of shaming Ashley for giving up, the others stopped to help him out. Plus, he was not afraid to cry in front of the camera, which I appreciate much more than any toxic masculinity BS. Ms. Sylvie reminds me of one of my former teachers who I admire dearly. Rasheed, Grubbs, Boatright, and others had such positive energy. I loved Lyric's general vibe, she seems very cool and collected. The judges seemed mean initially but eventually came around to bond with the contestants as well. I feel like the filming and editing documented the relationship building very well throughout the show. It was an entertaining watch for me and I learned about meat cooking!
