Aladdin review: overall I give it a A.
Kids- rated PG. nothing horrible scary- esp the giant snake. Makes an appearance but not like the animated. Romance is sweet, not sexual.
Genie- first 20-30 minutes are a little slow( new story lines introduced) and details. Once he shows up, whole interest level improves. Will Smith was wonderful and I don’t think anyone else would have done the memory of Robin Williams Justice. CG was Very well done! His singing is a little weak but it was okay.
Singing and dancing felt almost Bollywood feeling, more so than Arabian nights. Didn’t care for the ‘film speed up’- slightly distracting. Very energetic and visually compelling. Beautiful costuming and sets.
Jasmine- as is the norm these days, she is made strong and independent and that’s fine. Didn’t go as far as Wonder Woman which I didn’t care for because of the all men are bad/women don’t need men( don’t jump on me, I am in the minority opinion on that). She has a loving relationship with her father- not defiant
Raja - beautifully done and precursor to Lion King with CG work
It is a good family movie- comfortable with the kids watching. A bit long in length but for a kid 6 or older, should be good. Aladdin learns the value of telling the truth, being yourself, having courage and loyalty, keeping promises. All good for kids to see as well as adults.
