I do understand why most of people didn't like this book. The character is despicable, there is not much plot.. Just a continous narrative which leads nowhere. Halfway through the book and you're still not sure why was this particular novel written. It took all my will power to actually convince myself to finish the book.
And that's when I found it, the meaning of the book. What the name means, why such a character, why other characters around him, and all.
"The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one.’“
Hate the character all you want, but don't tell me that you never wanted to do/ thought of doing any of things he did (or thought of). The character IS flawed because he was made to be flawed. You're not supposed to relate to him, you are supposed to 'not' turn out like him.
It's nonetheless a wonderful book, about acceptance, family, innocence while having a complete disregard for it, change of character, sometimes dragging the point but funny too. I would recommend this book to everyone just so before you do something think about what would Holden do in this scenario and do the complete opposite. //sorry for this stupid, long review, i got overwhelmed.
