The author is sectarian and highly biased. Sati was the reality and she mixed up Jawar of Rajasthan with Sati in the rest of India. Ram Mohan Roy's own sister-in-law became a Sati; that was the reason Ram Mohan Roy was determined to wipe out that practice. The author is not a historian. She does not know that the Mughal Emperor Akbar II gave that title to Ram Mohan Roy, who was a judge in the Supreme Court in Calcutta at that time.
