A great action packed man-versus-the-world plot, in the style of Die Hard and Behind Enemy Lines, but far more realistic. There is graphic violence which tends to make it more brutally realistic than the typical action movie, albeit stomach churning at times.
The use of a family (and family man) is an interesting twist on the action genre where the man is typically an unattached, dysfunctional, ex-Navy Seal or burnt out cop loner caring only for his own survival. The main character here is just an ordinary, decent bloke, but the strong family bond adds to the white knuckle ride.
As for critics who claim this is racist simply because it's set in an Asian country, that is like saying Die Hard is racist for its portrayal of Germans.
