This book, not being inconsiderate of the horrible details it necessarily contains, is a fantastic and detailed outlay of the horrific events that occurred prior to, during, and after the Rape of Nanking. Ms Chang brilliantly balances telling the entire broad story but knows when to flesh out specific details, events or particular peoples' stories in order to give as much information as can be written to convey the horror that transpired at Nanking. Thank you Ms Chang - without this book it is likely I would have continued on for the rest of my life never hearing nor appreciating what happened in Nanking.
