I’m really not sure how to feel about this. I think the movie had good intentions but failed horribly on execution. This is by far one of the most problematic and controversial movies of our time.

It was a fairly lukewarm movie, I can’t give more than 3 stars for it. The dialogue was somewhat awkward and the transitions between songs were a bit jarring. Some of the comedic bits were funny but some of the jokes fell flat and just made me cringe a little bit - but that’s probably because it was more directed to a younger audience. I didn’t mind the inclusion of some of the societal messages, I just think they could have been a tad more subtle. On a somewhat unrelated note, I wish that the other reviewers would review based on the actual content of the movie, and not the identity of the characters.

Personally I found the movie to be alright. It’s obviously more targeted for a younger demographic so somebody like me probably wouldn’t get as much enjoyment out of it as others would. Yes, there are LGBTQ+ characters in it (so what?) and I felt the way they presented the characters / messages could have been done better but for what it was, it wasn’t too bad. Pretty good animation (not my favorite style but it looked pretty good), and a decent storyline. I’m giving this 4 stars. It’s unfortunate that this movie became a target of the radical conservative mob who review bomb movies that don’t fit their narrow worldview. So much for crying about cancel culture, huh? Go alt-right, go sh*te.
