We had high hopes for this show in the first 2 episodes. It was clever, and we were glad to see "Everybody Hates Chris" star Tyler James Williams again. His and Quinta Brunson's teachers were a little over-the-top innocent but somehow still believable and adorable just like "Chris" was in his portrayal of a hapless pre-teen and teen.
William's teacher became a little more "real" in later episodes, dating the cute, tall, stylish, social-media type girl instead of his doofy friend, played by Brunson. (Of course, we know the cutie is temporary, though, and just a way to buy time before the 2 teachers become an item.)
He even made a snarky remark to the councilman about his affair with his current wife. But Williams also started to give off a slight gay vibe, which would be fine, but is odd for the character.
Quinta's glances at the camera have been SO frequent that it's hard to get into the moment. It's like a stand-up comedian who takes long pauses to wait for laughs after every joke, even when the laughs aren't coming.
The councilman's warning to the principal that she's probably going to be fired, instead of actually firing her for blackmailing him, isn't plausible at all. Anyone who would blackmail someone to get a job would also retaliate when she thinks she's going to be fired. Imagine the damage she would do to the school. We assume she's staying on for another season as she seems to be suddenly showing a "good side", despite being a loose cannon AND a slacker who has only been seen avoiding doing her job.
