I wish they would get the answer right when it comes to what a Billiard , Snooker table is covered with, it is not baize, that is used for card tables and notice boards, a cheap cotton based material. On Snooker tables it is called Billiards cloth which is made from 100 per cent wool , it has a nap which baize does not have , first originally made for coach drivers top coats, the rain would run off hence the nap, it is more felt like than a cotton baize, Billiard cloth was probably first used about 1700s, I worked in the trade for 43 years
