Great movie up til the very end. The final confrontation done just for dramatics without slightest hint of concern for not ruining movie (as I've noticed going back watching many old shows from '70's and movies from before that) due to lack of tactical realities.
No way Scott lets Boone go after being ringleader of threesome that committed murdering a boy, dad and Scott's friend...no way. Besides that, he sure isn't letting him go with apparently the only rifle ...a weapon far superior to Scott's scattergun at any range past 25 yds. What's equally dumb, Boone when a safe rifle range away (100 yds maybe), instead of pulling rifle from scabbard and shooting Scott or trying to, he turns and rides at a gallop right into Scott's shotgun blast. I think Boone was trying to work rifle at the same time he's riding but that's no way to go about it: throwing away your edge with every gallop, while firing from a moving horse guaranteeing the other rifle edge (besides range), accuracy, is also thrown away.
