This is probably the best overall video game I have ever played. It is incredibly intricate and never gets monotonous like so many other games do. Every chapter is unique and the mechanics are ever-changing. You could not possibly imagine the next thing the game is going to throw at you; it’s genius, and you will be in constant awe at the novelty and beauty of each area. You will not care about the fact that there are no collectibles or points or whatever. The bare platform itself is an immersive experience that you will savor at every turn.
The story is nice, can be a bit silly and superficial at times, and can randomly turn dark and awkwardly inappropriate. There is a small amount of language. Violence is only done toward non-human animals and objects, but they are all anthropomorphized; so, at times it can feel morally off the deep end (example: the elephant).
The game is very long for a platformer, so if you have a life, like I do, it will take you many weeks to complete. But you will want it to go on forever. If you are a lay gamer then you will find many puzzles and bosses challenging. Don’t be discouraged by the reviews saying it’s too easy. It is not easy, and learning the new mechanics through each chapter keeps you on your toes. You will have arguments with your partner because collaboration is necessary at all points. We were thrown off initially by the fact that the game is split screen because we’re used to things like LBP. The split screen is a great benefit. You can roam around and not worry about being together all the time, and sometimes you will be separated. It is just fine on a large TV screen.
There’s much more praise I could give, but just get the game and start playing it, you’ll see. It’s worth far more than $40. Unforgettable game and endless entertainment. It is certainly replayable because each character has different roles and abilities throughout each chapter.
