As a performer who has made a lot of mistakes while on stage -- I can't help but relate to the struggle that Kat experiences. I absolutely love this show because it really showcases the beauty of ice skating along side how much it takes from a performer (the hours, the constant working and tweaking of a movement, and having to consistently have it on your mind) and also the possible outcomes after the performance. Personally, I am a musician -- originally I was a violinist. Whenever I play in front of anybody, even if I am fine and don't feel afraid or anything and am completely prepared, my body just shakes to such of an unbearable degree that I mess up nearly every note that I play. After that, you can't help but hate yourself, have an extreme depression and just beat yourself up about it. As a person, I struggle with a lot of things, but what really gets me is the suicidal depression and severe anxiety. Performers are people; we base our lives off of perfection and anything that veers from it really impacts our self esteem and impacts our daily lives. Not a lot of people talk about mental health, but in the world of art, mental disabilities have a tendency to be frowned upon even though like 99% of us have it in some form or another.
Anyways, this show is amazing. I love it and relate to it a lot. All of the characters are really well written and the story is a good one. On top of that, it has all of the highs and lows -- all of the dynamics. And I can't help but be a helpless romantic.
I hope you give this show a try.<3
