Cate gets 5-stars but the overall story was irritating. Blanchette said in an interview that it was originally written to be a male conductor. Makes sense because the title character behaved like too many powerful men.
I keep thinking that if it had been made with a male protagonist , nobody would be talking about it. Not buzz, no box-office. So did Todd Field switch to a woman as an exploitive move? Like Marin Alsop, just makes me mad.
