I read the book and have lived this story in my own life so my review is through that lens. I was very moved by this story and even a bit unsettled. That is not to say that the movie was not good- it was. I wondered if other audience members were viewing into their drug addicted loved one's life like I was. I was glad to be alone- much to see and think about and several bouts of tears.
The acting and casting were very good. It was filmed in Marin County and San Francisco, where the story actually took place in real life. The beauty of the environment and good living of Marin County accentuate the tragedy of such a bright life taken hostage.
I was surprised to see that Brad Pitt was involved with production of this film and I applaud it. As the stark statistics about the drug scourge are rolled at the end of the movie, it is apparent how much attention this matter needs. Even better would be some solutions. I'm still waiting for that.
