Was in the mood for a nice romantic comedy that would calm me. Instead, I was met with a horrible, vile, inexcusable abuser of a character. This film is so completely demeaning to women, not to mention people of color, Jews, the LGBTQ+ community, and pretty much everyone who isn't an old white rich man. Disappointing in every way. I was completely disheartened to find all the rave reviews as well. It was a horrible and harmful depiction of OCD, and using a mental health condition to justify treating other people like trash is completely appalling. "Oh calm down it's just a movie!" they say as if people don't completely use what they learn in movies to apply to real life. This is absolutely sickening. If you've made it this long without watching this movie, do yourself a favor and continue to steer clear.

It's no wonder that the predominantly white and predominantly male institution of the Oscars thought this movie was a masterpiece. If you have anxiety or depression or any other mental illness or have suffered from mental or physical abuse, please do not watch this movie. To those who say "it's just a movie, calm down!" I say movies promote ideas, culture, and real life actions. To think that somebody might watch this movie and be led to believe that it's ok to treat or be treated like that frightens me to no end. This movie is an awful endorsement of white male power. No jazz drumming in the world is good enough to justify a suicide. It really bums me out that such phenomenal actors choose to promote such awful themes in their movies. I'm extremely disappointed.
