These 1 star reviews are hilarious, and expected.
Barbie has always been about women doing anything they set their mind to, and they've been hammering that home since the 80's at the earliest. Pretending otherwise is dishonest.
Going into a Greta Gerwig Barbie film and believing feminism wouldn't be a component is laughable. Barbie is not, and has not been, "in love" with Ken in a very long time. Giving this film a 1 star review because you expected a Hallmark styled romance film isn't helpful, and it comes off disingenuous.
This film ends on a note of humanism, of men and women shining on their own without tearing each other down, having non-toxic sisterhood and brotherhood. It was hilarious the entire way through, and I was in a theater of people laughing the entire time.
Misogyny in this world has been vocally increasing. It has gotten violent, scary, hateful, and has been easing its way into legislation. So it isn't surprising to see people give 1 star to such a fun film because its a film directed not only at women, but at women who make it a point to be a feminist. But don't let them fool you, this film was a ton of fun and I'm looking forward to seeing it again very soon with more friends.
