I work in the consumer products industry and compliance is an extremely weak area for most companies - why would you put resources toward something that makes you no money? Um, to not give people cancer! The system is so sick. There's no oversight when you are having goods manufactured in China. If you require them to disclose all chemicals being used to make or coat your products, they charge big bucks and increase your lead times so that you don't want to check. Then you add politicians, lobbyists, easily fooled consumers, marketing machines and false internet info, you have a very complicated brew of misinformation. I say, the closer to the source, the less contamination. Read your labels. Challenge the companies to disclose. Stay on them. The moment their sales drop, they will make the necessary changes. Conversely, buy their products and support what they are doing, it's game on.
