(Non-Spolier Review)
Godzilla Minus One is a once in a lifetime film. This reboot of the original 1954 Gojira surpasses it by miles. We get an in depth look at the horrors of WWII and how Godzilla himself is an example of humanity’s hatred and disdain for one another. We follow a defected kamikaze pilot and his struggle to cope with the aftermath of the war, Godzilla just around the corner. Director Takashi Yamazaki masterfully pulls you in with a gut wrenching plot, a serious theme of life, death and what it means to push forward! The movie shows Godzilla at his most destructive and the visuals are off the charts. We can change from a rampage in the ocean, where Godzilla is on fully display destroying warships, to a quiet rundown shack where two characters simply talk. It is well known that Godzilla movies, in particular the actors, are considered cheesy or just flat out bad. I'm happy to say that the acting is by far the best, MUCH better than the common "ok" movies that we're subjected to today. Not to mention the soundtrack and remastered theme was something to behold only in a theater. This is a film that has something to say and is a must watch. When a Godzilla movie brings me to tears at the end, you know TOHO studios did Godzilla right as they always do. They didn't just hop the fence, TOHO went to the Moon, and then some to craft a spectacle you have to see to believe. The music, acting, writing, and directing is untouchable. Frankly, this IS the BEST Godzilla movie!
