I have been watching DWTS since the very beginning and this is still my favorite TV show, especially in comparison to the diminishing (poor) options that are available on cable with the rise of streaming platforms. That being said, I think there are its pros and cons, with the pros largely outweighing the cons. Dance is seemingly a dying yet beautiful art that does not seem to get enough recognition in today's age. This show provides a huge platform for dance and showcases it by people from all walks of life and backgrounds. The creative and amazing choreographies created by the talented pros, the partnerships and friendships created, the costumes, makeup, lighting and crew behind the scenes that make this show come to life all makes this show a true joy to watch.
Due to the nature of the show (the variety of stars will inevitably come into the competition with abilities that can help or hinder them), it's impossible to please everyone and I think people need to relax and enjoy it for what it is. Enjoy the contestant's personal journey/growth and vote for the stars whose dances resonate with you, move you and make you feel happy. I personally have not been a fan of MANY of the outcomes in terms of who took home the mirrorball-- but it is what it is. With stars coming from different backgrounds, live audience voting with an already established bias, this show is not meant to be truly "fair" but more so about sheer entertainment. Once people come to realize and accept this, we can all just enjoy the show for what it is. The biggest complaint now is about Tyra Banks and although she makes for a pretty terrible host, I think that people are taking it to the extreme and to quit watching this show for that reason alone seems far too silly.
Some recommendations to improve the show would be to get rid of Tyra's cat walk entrances and bring back more pro numbers and slightly longer rehearsal packages to give viewers more insight on how hard these dance couples actually work and how far they have come. Watching this show on Monday's was and continues to be a highlight for our family. I really hope DWTS continues to run for as long as possible.
