The 1991 Crown Heights racial riots were sad indeed. However, it's not surprising at all. I'll be viewing 'FIRES IN THE MIRROR'' for the 1st time ever. I want to see how the author deals with the racial divide between the Hasidics and the numerous Black residents .Many of the Black residents are foreign born from the Caribbean and African nations. I wonder how they have joined the US race conflicts so quickly. The land of the great Brooklyn Dodgers, who accepted the great Jackie Robinson in 1947 has become a borough full of racial strife and animosity.

I first heard about this classic film back in 1967. It's a standard work for students of decolonization. I did get to see LOST COMMAND during the 60s , but my political conscience was almost non existent. All in all, I think that the BATTLE OF ALGIERS is a requisite work for all pupils of decolonization, history, and political science. I have completed many readings about the French defeat in Vietnam and this important work is a a follow up continuation viewing.
