The final scene is telling of what this movie could have been. The 2:30 scene is dark, brutal and unforgiving. This is what the fans wanted. This is what Gareth Edwards had envisioned. Yet once again, Disney has gotten in the way of what could have been an exciting, original and memorable stand alone movie in the star wars universe.
The rest of the movie is forgettable. I do not remember the names of any of the main characters bar Jyn. Equally, I felt no sense of attachment to any of them. Despite Jyn being the main character, it seems she is just along for the ride. The plot drags her along against her will, and she never at a single point show any sign of being the "rogue" she was portrayed as in the trailers.
Perhaps what is so painful about this movie is what it could have been. the extensive reshoots were clearly Disney not liking the "war" feel that Gareth had planned, and wanted to capitalise on the young kids who are just starting to get into Star Wars. DONT FORGET, the majority of Star Wars fans are now adults, and are looking for a gritty take on the universe they love. Disney however does not care about these fans, and leaves them at the side of the road.
