Utter garbage
I don’t even need to mention all the controversy around this film to justify how bad it was. Besides being a piece of dated ableist garbage, this movie’s true crime is how boring AND awful it is. It’s hard to sympathise with characters that are such stereotypical and underdone caricatures. And, somehow, despite being uninspired and uninteresting, this movie (which was advertised as an “uplifting” story) has gut-punch after gut-punch of horrible events unfold that feel as if they weren’t needed to enhance the plot, but rather for shock value. It often feels as if it is trying to constantly beat itself in the category of unwanted plot developments. The only thing that could possibly save this movie - the song/dance sequences - fall terribly short to make the experience all the more disappointing. Music is a flop - a terrible start to the new year. Do NOT waste your money going to see this movie.
