This movie, at a glance, seemed somewhat appealing. However, 10 minutes into the movie... I began to realize other wise. The plot was bland and wanna-be progressive while the characters were all unlikeable. The writers attempted to create an unusual underdog style pairing with the "one-eyed boy and plus-sized girl", when in reality a plus sized person or someone with an eye patch dating is not groundbreaking. They portrayed the girl as untouchable or disgusting because of her weight, and the boy was constantly picked on because of his eye, when it would have more realistic for him to be unliked because of his selfish, egotistical personality. There are so many plot holes and places that are just not connected or well-developed. The ending of the movie is the most unsatisfying ending I have ever seen. Why. If the development of the girl character was to become more independent and better herself physically and socially, why did she end up with the same guy who cannot stand to see her thrive and physically shoves fatty mac and cheese down her throat? To move the plot along the almost completely relied on flash-forward transitions without explaining how the characters got to their positions? The casting for the COLLEGE FRESHMEN was so poorly done... they looked to be in their 30s or 40s which was incredibly unrealistic. The bullying in the high school seemed excessive, overdone, and not realistic. I get the point they were trying to make, but it would have been less cringe-inducing if it was toned down a little. It is almost unbearable to watch a movie when you feel almost no sympathy towards the main character. Matt was manipulative, pathetic, power-hungry, and always looking to put Jill down. He showed no positive character development... If you want a movie that will make you squirm with second-hand embarrassment and regret, watch this one.
