I have read the books in the past. I am now re-readimg the books. I want to like the series. I don't dislike it...if I wasn't comparing it to the books then I would like it a lot more. The show losses something by not sticking to the books. It is loosely based on the books and the plots, character development, introduction of characters, and scenes have all been rewritten to a great extent for no reason that I can see. i.e. Perrin was never married, Matt did not have the family troubles shown, the dragon reborn can only be a male and has never been female(I am not sure why this was changed), the dark one is only after the boys, Nyaneve was not taken by a trollic and was born in Two Rivers, Thom Merrillin was on the journey at the very beginning, Morraine was not stabbed by a Trollic sword requiring them to seek out other Aes Sedai for her healing, Logan was taken to another city first where everyone met back up, Rand heard rumblings from his sick father when taking him to the village that made him question if his parents were his parents & who he was, the town was isolated and the power structure of the town was never introduced. I am still re-reading the story, but I have a feeling they changed a whole lot more. I will probably continue to watch the show for now. However, I will have to take the stance that is a new story and not a beloved story that was completely changed for agian no reason that I can see. FYI.... if the show stuck to the books like GOT and Lord of the Rings then much would be explaind and the characters would have developed differently. Don't get me wrong some of the their traits are still there. Nyaneve is still a badass. All that being said, I still love Epic quest stories. Yes, the themes are always basically the same, but the characters make the stories even if there may be similarities to another story. there is so much to love with these types of stories.
I do think the actors are doing a good job and I would like the story better if it wasn't changed. Lol... I guess I can't say that enough
