Hats off the best Chinese drama I have ever seen! Sun Li is brilliant and was made for this role. What I love the most is the reality of this drama compared to others. The emperor is clearly an older man while his concubines are teenagers. They are not all willing to live in the forbidden city and some even face brutality on the very first day. Lies, plotting, death... this is the order of things. I love the variation in personalities of the women, I especially love Sun Li's change of character since leaving the palace. Nothing in this drama is predictable. Just watch it and you'll find yourself comparing it to others like Yanxi Palace and Ruyi.

*sighs* where should I start? I just want to say this show is absolutely perfect and I would change nothing. The soundtracks, characters, the fight scenes they all are different but come together in such a beautiful way that highlights Asian culture. When watching you will relate to every character as they each have different personalities and their varying past circumstances help them to learn from each other. The creators did an outstanding job well done on this show. The imagination and detail they put into this show was, boundless, if you know what I mean. You just have to watch it to understand. I honestly hope Netflix does not let them down with their remake.

I just watched the movie. My honest review is that it was beautiful but I did miss the iconic red hair. Melissa McCarthy did the best at bringing one of the classic’s characters alive. Halle Bailey has the perfect voice but I guess since this was her first acting role there were moments she seemed unsure of herself. That being said, I still encourage anyone to watch it because it is a splash of something new. Lastly I’m glad that there is a big Caribbean influence on the film, but as someone from that region I should say that we are not all Jamaican.
