First things first: THIS IS A SOULS GAME.
If you’re a casual/infrequent gamer who’s never played a FROMSOFT soulsbourne game, or no experience with 3rd person role-playing games, then I won’t recommend this game. These games are not impossible, and I promise you are much easier than you would think. BUT, they are unique when it comes to gameplay: never holding your hand and trust the players to learn how to play and get better on their own. Approaching these games like they’re any other casual rpg will likely cause you to return the game and tell everyone how impossible and broken and not-fun it was. Instead, if you go into your first souls game with an open mind, and most importantly: a willingness to learn and adapt, you will experience some of the best gaming the industry has to offer. Remember: these games can be beaten by ANYONE if they’re willing to do this.
Now, Elden Ring. This is the best souls game FROMSOFT has ever released and I don’t think it’s even close. Everything from the level and map design, the combat, magic, bosses, lore, etc. is the most polished and remarkable of anything they’ve made so far. You can tell they took lessons from earlier games, taking out what wasn’t working and leaving in and improving what was. And this applies to the entirety of the MASSIVE world of elden ring, nothing felt rushed or half-a$$ed. I honestly think I will be able to put hundreds of hours into this game before even starting to get tired of it. And as I am currently writing this, I’m not even done with my first play through yet, despite having spent enough time playing to beat all of dark souls 3 and blood borne separately. If you’re hesitant to get this game and are thinking of doing so: do it and thank me later.
