I first saw this when it originally came out ten years ago, and it still holds up as a great little indie film. And well worth watching and rewatching - not only a great tribute to the late and lovely Luke Perry, but also the very first screen appearance by Nicholas Galitzine, just eight weeks from leaving school and in his first professional role. He nails the part of a geeky loner with an ambition to be a rock god, acting a storm, singing and playing guitar beautifully. I spotted him then, and have been watching his growing career with interest and delight ever since. And there is a telling final scene that foresees the highly gifted talent he has become since! It is a quirky and clever little film, with some great songs, and is the definition of a down to earth feel good movie; which is easier to say than to achieve! Highly recommended.

I agree with the reviewer who says there is some real snowflake commenting here. This is a true story from history, and still hotly debated. The sets get criticised when they are the real Jacobean buildings, used for their authenticity. Truth is, the authenticity in this series is off the chart. Script and acting is remarkable, from youngsters in their first roles to the remarkable trio at the top Julianne Moore, Tony Curran and Nicholas Galitzine. Brave film making for wise and adventurous audiences. Go watch!

One f the best films you will ever see, from one of the best books you will ever read. Astonishing in all aspects. Believe the hype, because it is all true. Wonderfully true to the book, and only improved in the final scenes by Jane Campion's assured touch and understanding of the source material. A career best and career defining lead performance from Benedict Cumberbatch, who had the courage and commitment to take on and meet such a demanding role and become Phil Burbank, one of the darkest and most dangerous - but most fascinating - characters in C20th American literature. Both book - and film - are once seen, never forgotten. A rare response and accolade for an instant classic.
