I wish that I could give American Rust no stars at all. The only reason that I continued to watch every week was because of an unhealthy need to finish what I started. The finale was especially terrible, trying to tie up all loose ends in a tidy ending while also possibly opening some small mysteries in case it is renewed. I hope it isn't. Was it just the vapid writing or maybe the muted cinematography trope of trying to express bleakness in an already bleak impoverished setting? Please no more. Let these fine actors begin better projects.
