The Last of Us Part II is a masterpiece. The hate for the game comes from a place where hate takes over the player. To avoid spoilers, they hate a key aspect of the games storyline, which is understandable, but they cannot see beyond that hatred. I was in the same boat, I hated this character, I wanted them dead, and I certainly didn't want to play as them. But this is where Naughty Dog's true genius writing comes in. They take a character we all despise, makes us understand why they did what they did, and we end up seeing them for the good person they are. Where the story doesn't work for some, is that aforementioned hatred. They refuse to see past their hate, and only despise this character. They refuse to let the writers break them down emotionally and find compassion for someone they hate. Just like Ellie they want revenge, but unlike Ellie, they refuse to give them a chance.
