This is a most beautifully written book and the collection of writings are astonishingly intellectual, reasonable, written in the style of an age gone by. an age when logic and objective observation ruled. I am 78 and my young life was spent reading this type of literature which aims to provide truth, information and change thru calm persuasion. How different from the subjective, illogical, emotional ranting of this age The poems are heart moving and I hared them with others especially those of
Countee Cullen, though the others are excellent also. His poem, Simon the Cyrenian Speaks , published in 1925 by his wife, provided the unexpected priceless gift of a perspective on a subject I had long and often meditated on: How did Simon react when he finally realized whose cross he was compelled to carry? Was the unwelcome imposition actually the greatest blessing of his life? The short, terse verses seem to come from Simon himself and the poem reveals the deep love the author bore for dear Christ. Coupled with his poem, MOOD, the author succinctly verbalizes both the inner and outer life of a black person. None who possess a heart can fail to understand. Don't miss out on this treasure chest of wisdom and revelation.
